Rock the Bells Release Party
Posted by: GAIL ALL DAY
Summer heat. A sea of hip hop fiends. ODB (R.I.P.) and the riot that could have happened if he never showed. Tributes. Golden era hip hop flashbacks. World records. So-called backpackers. Underground. Jiggy. Festival fanatics. Sold out shows. That's what it's about.
Rock the Bells is a hip hop festival known for its history-making lineup. Wu-Tang Clan and Rage Against the Machine have headlined in previous years. I've been lucky enough to witness this, thanks Guerilla Union- the people behind this extraordinary event (and Paid Dues, and Smokeout). This American festival becomes international this year for the first time with one tour date in Canada and Japan, and four in Europe. Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Kid Sister, Cool Kids, Spank Rock, Flosstradamus and so many more (along with surprises yet to be announced) will be part of this tour.

Thanks to MySpace a place for hiphop (Roslynn!), I was granted access to witness legendary hip hop pioneers take the stage tonight. Who were they?
Rock the Bells Release Party live from Claremont, CA at the Hip Kitty Jazz Club: Raekwon of Wu-Tang Clan and De La Soul joined by their friends, A Tribe Called Quest and Pharcyde.

The sound in these videos came out better than I thought. Canon G9! (more videos coming soon)
"I'm from L.A., Southern California... where everybody is somebody and the game is fame, do everything with bang..." (Murs - L.A.)
"Cash rules everything around me!" (Raekwon / Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.)
De La Soul performs

"What we have is much more than they can see." (De La Soul - Much More, a J Dilla production)
Everytime I upload part 1 on YouTube, it fails. I apologize for all the movement. I was getting really into the show. Front row, getting down to a classic, how can I not?
Wale on the red carpet

Happy birthday to Supernatural, Guinness World Record holder for the longest freestyle

Supernat taking objects from the audience for his freestyle
Kallusive ladies clothing?!? No, it's the men's Hope shirt + my scissors. (Ladies line coming soon!) This will probably be my default picture on MySpace right about now.
